Ameinu Welcomes Israel’s High Court Ruling on Conversions

Ameinu welcomes the decision by Israel’s High Court of Justice recognizing Conservative and Reform conversions. The Court ruled 8-1 that people who went through Conservative or Reform conversion process in Israel should be considered Jews according to the Law of Return.

“It is well past the time to end the Orthodox monopoly on Judaism in Israel,” said Ameinu President Kenneth Bob. “Pluralism is the norm throughout the Jewish world and Israel should no longer be the one place that fails to recognize conversions from all streams of Judaism,” Bob added.

Ameinu calls on politicians from across the political spectrum to refrain from enacting legislation to cancel or alter this historic decision. “Conversions should not be subject to political horse trading and back room deals of coalition building,” Bob said.
