Al-Walaja is a picturesque Palestinian village between Jerusalem and Bethlehem that lives under the constant specter of home demolitions. Since 1967, the Israeli authorities have refused to design and approve a zoning plan for the village, thus rendering it impossible to receive building permits in the part of the village that Jerusalem has annexed. A door for change opened last year. The Israeli Supreme Court has stayed the demolition orders for 38 homes and the villagers have hired a planner who is preparing the plan. Still, demolitions continue in al-Walaja. Spread the word through your networks and join us in hearing from one of the villagers, understanding the planning process, and learning how we can help fund it.
Our hour-long Zoom from Jerusalem will outline where things stand now for al-Walaja and how you can pitch in.
