Why Ameinu Opposes David Friedman for U.S. Ambassador to Israel
Ameinu — as Americans and Zionists — has strongly opposed David Friedman, President Trump’s nominee to b
e U.S. Ambassador to Israel, since this choice was announced.
David Friedman’s views directly conflict with long standing American foreign policy and practice in the region. He is an opponent of a two-state solution, a supporter of increased settlement expansion in the West Bank and even its annexation, and an advocate of moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem without any other associated peace efforts.
He has also viscously attacked liberal advocates of a two-state solution as “worse than kapos,” Jews who were forced to assist the Nazis. This raises serious concerns about Friedman’s temperament and his ability to serve in this sensitive diplomatic position.
Finally, while Ameinu does not question the sincerity and passion of David Friedman and his fellow Right-Wing Zionists in the U.S. and in Israel, we see the current empowerment of this strain of Zionism as a grave threat to the Zionist goals of Jewish self-determination and creation of a state embodying the Jewish values of equality, peace and freedom.

As your constituent, I strongly urge you to reject President Donald Trump’s choice to be the next US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman.
An ally of the settlement movement, Mr. Friedman poses a threat to longstanding US policies in the Middle East that have been supported by Democratic and Republican presidents alike.
Furthermore, the contempt Mr. Friedman has shown toward liberal American Jews – labeling them worse than Nazi collaborators – makes him a horrible choice to be our representative in Israel.
I urge you to reject Mr. Friedman’s nomination to be the next US ambassador to Israel.
